The Rico Report May 16, 2012
Happy belated Mother's Day to our mothers who from the day we were born were deciated and loving and did their best to instill in us the basics of living a life of good works, knowing good from bad and all kinds of other values to observe in ones lifetime.

Ready to Go
Although I tried to pretend that last week was just a little market teaser, it looks like we're really back in the farmers market routine.  There's lots of good things about this - we love seeing everyone after a winter's absence, we enjoy the market atmosphere and are happy to be a part of it, the information give-and-take with customers is always interesting and informative and vital to our business, and of course it's how we make our money! - but once the markets start there's no getting away from our summertime hectic schedule and after being spoiled all winter with a lack of one, it's always a little difficult to make the transition.  Ready or not, though, we'll be there!

Rico Profile: Mike and Mary Hagan
Mike and Mary Hagan live to sail, and they have been sailing together since the 1980's.  Mary grew up in Connecticut and sailed as a kid with her father.  Mike and Mary each found a reason to move to Colorado in the late 1970's – Mike to work at King Coal Mine in Hesperus, Mary to attend Fort Lewis , and they met during what she calls “the Gold Slipper days.”  The Gold Slipper was a saloon in Durango and a popular hang-out in the 1970's and 1980's.

Rico News 2/21/2012
At the regular Rico Town Board meeting held on February 15, 2012, under New Business, on behalf of the Rico Alpine Society, Deanna Drew talked about a complaint filed with the State Court by the Colorado Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers (BHA) against the United States Forest Service, challenging the designation of certain trails in the Rico/West Dolores area of the San Juan National Forest as suitable for motorized use, without the federally-required environmental review and studies.
